How can nutritional strategies and feed technologies in pig production affect the logistical costs of manure distribution? R. Bras. Zootec.
Afonso,Esther Ramalho; Nacimento,Rafael Araujo; Palhares,Julio Cesar Pascale; Gameiro,Augusto Hauber.
ABSTRACT The objective with this study was to evaluate the impact of different swine nutritional strategies and technologies, as well as the land spread system, on logistical costs of pig manure distribution. For this, pigs were fed a conventional diet (C0) or a diet supplemented with 0.01% phytase (C1); organic minerals (40% substitution; C2); synthetic amino acids at reduced dietary crude protein levels (C3); or a combination of the three strategies (C4). All pig manure was weighed, then its chemical composition was determined. The mineral values and volume of manure produced were extrapolated to corresponding pig farm sizes in Sao Paulo state (300, 650, and 1000 sows) from real pig manure levels to produce simulations. To determine the logistical cost...

Use of vinasse and sugarcane bagasse for the production of enzymes by lignocellulolytic fungi BABT
Aguiar,Mario Mamede; Ferreira,Luiz Fernando Romanholo; Monteiro,Regina Teresa Rosim.
In this present work, three strains of Pleurotus and Trichoderma reesei were cultivated in media with pre-treated bagasse and vinasse. Cellulolytic and lignolytic activities and biomass production were analyzed. The treatment of the bagasse with 2% H2O2 + 1.5% NaOH + autoclave resulted in a greater fiber breakage increasing the cellulose level up to 1.2 times and decreasing 8.5 times the hemicellulose content. This treatment also resulted in a high lignolytic activity for all cultures utilized. T. reesei produced laccase, peroxidase and manganese-peroxidase in all the treatments, having its manganese-peroxidase activity raging from 1.9 to 4.8 times higher than the basidiomycetes.

Beirão,Luiz Henrique; Mackie,Ian Mckintoch; Teixeira,Evanilda; Damian,César.
A trypsin -like enzyme from the pyloric caeca of cod (Gadus morhua) was purified by affinity chromatography on CHOM Sepharose 4B. Some characteristics were established by its catalytic activity on T.A.M.E., typical enzyme substrate, and serine protease inhibitors. The enzyme had an isoelectric point of 5.30 and 5.89 and was very similar in amino acid composition to bovine trypsin, but differed in having a higher relative amount of acidic amino acids and a lower amount of basic amino acids. The enzyme also hydrolysed fish protein substrates.

ABSTRACT We evaluated the effects of a protease supplementation on the growth performance and intestinal health of broilers. Cobb chicks (392; 1-42 d) were divided into four treatments (seven replicates of 14 birds each). There were two feed formulations: a standard diet (SD) and a low crude protein and digestible amino acids diet (Low CP&AA). The two diets were either supplemented (+P) or not (−P) with a protease (Jefo Protease; 1.25 g kg−1). Performance was evaluated by feeding phases (1-7, 8-21, 21-35, and 35-42 d). On day 28, ileum samples were analyzed by a morphometric index for histological alterations (I See Inside Scoring System – ISI). Broilers fed the Low CP&AA had a poor feed conversion ratio (FCR); however, the addition of the protease...

Nitrate reductase activity in leaves and stems of tanner grass (Brachiaria radicans Napper) Scientia Agricola
Cazetta,Jairo Osvaldo; Villela,Luciana Cristine Vasques.
Tanner grass (Brachiaria radicans Napper) is a forage plant that is adapted to well-drained soils or wetlands, and responds well to nitrogen (N) fertilization. The assimilation of N involves the nitrate reductase (NR) enzyme, and its activity seems to be dependent on N supply. Molybdenum (Mo) is also important because it is a cofactor of NR. In this study, the variables of an in vivo assay were optimized for measuring nitrate reductase activity (NRA) in the leaves and stem tissues. This method was used to evaluate NO3- metabolism in plants fertilized with NaNO3, NH4Cl or urea, in association with or without application of H2MoO4, aiming to provide guidelines for N management of this species. The best conditions to determine NRA involved the incubation of...

Dhal Recovery From Enzyme Pretreated Pigeon Pea Cultivar Gjp1 CIGR Journal
Dabhi, Mukesh N.; Sangani, V P; Rathod, P J.
GJP1 variety is newly developed variety of pigeon pea. It gives higher seed yield as compared to other varieties. Pigeon pea is mostly consumed in the form of splits hence, it is necessary to verify its hulling efficiency and utmost dhal recovery. Pre milling treatments are generally employed to loosen the seed coat to remove husk without losing any edible portion and better dhal recovery.  Xylanase, pectinase and cellulose enzymes were used to evaluate the milling properties of pigeon pea grains. Efforts were made to evaluate the effect of enzymatic parameters, i.e., enzyme concentration (20-50 mg/100g dry matter), incubation time (4-12 h), incubation temperature (35-55 oC) and tempering water pH (4.0-6.0) on hulling efficiency were optimized using...
